Rockmodule Jacks

Post by rbc »

I picked up a Guitar Compressor that's in excellent physical shape, but it's stuck in bypass mode. The bypass mode works just fine, by the way. I think the previous owner may have gotten overzealous in their cleanup for sale and gummed up the foot-pedal jacks. Has anyone run into this kind of problem with the Rockmodules before? Any suggestions for a way to clean up the jacks?

Thanks,

I think another possibility is some solder joint(s) failed during shipping.

take off the front plate and top, unscrew the screw on the pcb, carefully lift the back plate and the front simultaneously, and flip the pcb over to look at the joints..... or post a pic when you do so.

It could be a cold solder joint.

It could be that a bunch of dust, dirt, smokey gunk, and other stuff got into the jack.

The jack itself could be broken.

Can you see anything strange inside the jack? Any funny looking solder points for that jack?

Sorry for the delay in answering. I hit a busy patch. Thanks for all the answers. The jacks look clear. The bypass light is staying on. I haven't looked at the bottom of the circuit board for discolored or broken solder joints.

There was a time when I had a bench, oscilloscope and signal generator, but I don't right now. I just have a multimeter and a soldering iron. And no schematics to boot. Not a recipe for success. I think I'm going to just ship it off to David Ferringer to get it back in shape this time. I'll have to get my electronics repair capabilities back up to snuff.

Best,

Good idea to send to DSGF. Have him do a full refurb while you're at it.

A bit of good news. I pulled open the Compressor again and carefully inspected the top and bottom of the board. I found a metal shaving attached to the back panel that had been resting on the circuit board. It was barely attached to the back panel so I removed it and reassembled the compressor. Now the compressor is fully functional. It took a while for me to get the gumption up to take it apart...

Best,
