2 Sustainors in series.

Post by Honda_boy »

I've got a question for you guys. I've got a 100 sustainor with an eq in the loop for cln 1 and 2, then into a 200 sustainor with pre and post eq, but my 200 sustainor is clipping and its seems too hard to get the cleans louder, does anyone know of anything that could be an issue? Thanks

Sounds like your signal is too hot by the time the 200 sees it.

Yeah, but I seem to be having trouble getting the levels between distortion sounds and clean, the distortion sounds are turned down yet still loud, and the cleans are clipping but not as loud. The sustainor wasn't made to take a line level signal, was it?

I don't think the "Guitar" jack on the front is designed for a line level input. Try using the "all return" jack on the back as an input. That will bypass the compressor and gate though. The "all return" is before the Sustainor distortion stage. I tried it with my Distortion Generator and Sustainor:

Guitar -> DG -> Sustainor (All return as input) -> PA

It was definitely heavier distortion.

Maybe a detailed picture of the units (with their settings) could help.

Righto, I'll post a pic when I can, but it's quite probable that I need to simply set my levels better.
Thanks for your replies,

Honda

If you want to send a line level into the "Guitar" input, my guess is you will have to attenuate the signal 20 to 24 dB. I think the Sustainor pre-amp gain will give you -10 dB if you put the gain all the way down. You'll have to subtract another 10 to 14 dB somehow.

I have never been able to get a clean chanel volume to match the edge or distortion volume level. It is always too low, thats why I have a compressor unit seperate of my main set up sent to its own dedicated chanel on my mixing board.
One of the reasons I have a remote loop.
