Rockmodules wearing out

Hey guys,

Was wondering, what is it that degrades Rockman gear? If stored properly for years, is it pure age that does them in? Or is it overuse during all those years?
Was thinking on this having seen a 1992 Sustainor mint/boxed/old stock sell the other day, and wondered if it would be in the same condition as when first produced?

All electrolytic capacitors have a limited lifetime due to leaking. About 20 years is the max one can expect, after which they need to be replaced. Exposure to extreme temperatures (hot or cold) will accelerate this problem. Rockman devices are full of electrolytic capacitors, many of which are in the audio signal path. Their degradation will result in increased noise.

Um, yeah, just had mine refurbed. Along with the caps, the sliders might need cleaning along with some solder points and connectors. It can really refresh the sound, though, well worth it.

The sliders can accumulate dust as well which can lead to bad connections and noise. I would presume a NOS unit still sealed in the box would be relatively dust free and sound great!
