XPR/Smart Gate help

Post by jiminbing »

Hello,
I have a XPR that hisses so I bought a Smart Gate. Can someone tell me what jacks I need to plug the cables into?
Sorry for the newbie question.

Thanks!

I would suggest using the effects loop and make sure you leave it turned on all the time.
Loop out -> Smart Gate In
Smart Gate out -> XPR Left (mono) in.

Thanks Bob

So by effects loop, is this what you mean?
XPR - Effects send to Smart Gate input
Smart Gate out to XPR Effects return left mono

When I hook it up like this it still buzzes while setting idol, guitar volume turned up.

Make sure the Loop is engaged (turned on.... green light on).
Then, of course, you have to set up the Smart Gate.....
Plug your guitar in but turn the volume on the guitar all the way down so you don't hear anything when you strum the strings.
Now turn the threshold setting on the Smart Gate until the noise disappears.
It's now set to remove the noise when you stop playing.

That did it! Thanks Bob!
When I turned up the volume on the guitar the buzzing came back, but when I activated the Line Level button from Guitar Level the buzz went away. All was quiet.

I would suggest running through the setting process again as I described (but with the Line level engaged as you described)so that you make sure you don't have it set to low a threshold.

The point is to have it only as strong as it needs to be to silence the noise, but not so strong that it cuts off you notes too soon or kills your tone (yes, it can do that if you set it too strong).
