Sustainor 100 PSU and caps value

Post by dreamevil »

Hi. I want to replace the transformer(220v) and recap my Sustainor 100. Can anyone help me about the exact values of the caps (near the transformer and other small ones) and the transformer please?
Thanks!

The Sustainor Model 100 should have:

(6) 10uf 35v caps (2 are radial, 4 are axial)
(1) 1uf 50v cap (axial)
(2) 1000uf 25v caps (radial)

You should double check the values of the caps as you take them out but the above values should be correct. Later Sustainor models started using a 3.3uf 50v cap near the power caps. Also, I would recommend just buying all radial caps and bending the leads to fit. Radial caps will work fine and they are cheaper and easier to find.

I'm not sure about the transformer. The Rockman website (www.rockman.fr) had a great write up about converting European rockmodules to the US version. It had pictures and part numbers for the transformer needed for each different module. Unfortunately, it appears it is now a dead link. It is the first article here:

http://www.rockman.fr/Articles/Articles.htm

I keep getting a "Not Found" error. Maybe someone else here has it saved somewhere and can help with that. I think the owner of the site (Jark) is a member here. You may want to ask him also.

I found another website that has the rockman.fr article regarding converting the power supplies:

Look towards the bottom for a list of transformer part numbers from different manufacturers.

Thank both of you so much. Do you know the exact place (on the board) of the 50v cap? And do you suggest 3.3uf like the newer models ?

The 1uf 50v cap is located on the small Smart Gate circuit board. See this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=15&t=475

darthoverdrive has a picture of where the caps are located.

I wouldn't put a 3.3uf cap in there unless it has one already. I'm sure SR&D made more changes to the later models than just that cap. Always replace caps with the same uf value.

Thanks again. I ordered the caps. Lastly i will change the transformer after all the refurbing finished. I want to use the Sustainor (on clean mode) without hiss, noise or problems at last.

10uf 35v

Its hard to tell from the glare but that one looks like it may have been replaced. The diameter looks wider than the 1 uf 50v right next to it and the color seems like a lighter blue. 10uf 35v should be correct though.

Tip - Before removing the caps, make sure you note the orientation. I usually place a small dot from a marker on the circuit board next to the hole for the negative lead. Some of the caps on that Sustainor already have a + silkscreened on the board but the 2 on the Smart Gate board and the 2 radial 10uf 35v nearby usually don't.

I see, thank you for the advices. If we succeed, i will share the photos of the whole board.
